THE ORIGINS OF PIEVE PROJECT

With the launch of the Pieve project, the historic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG has entered a new era.

The “Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – Pieve” is the result of a complex process of analysis and research that began in 2020 and was carried out by the Consortium for over a year. Thanks to the collective determination of the producers, a number of fundamental characteristics have been defined and identified for this new type of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, known not only by its name (that of the production area) but also through distinctive features that link it to the past, to local winemaking tradition, to the present day and to its international future. A wine rich in the characteristics of its specific terroir.

The blend is based on Sangiovese and complementary indigenous varieties authorized by the Consortium, with grapes produced exclusively by the producer. Another surprise is the establishment of an additional, specific internal committee within the Consortium, comprising oenologists and wine technicians. These experts have been entrusted with the task of assessing whether the characteristics comply with the production regulations prior to the necessary legislative procedures.

Following the unanimous approval of the production regulations by the general assembly, and subsequent approval by the Region of Tuscany, the text was also approved by the Ministry. The first harvest took place in 2021, and given the 36-month ageing period, the first vintage was released onto the market in 2025.
